Military position –
Military position –
Moderate flexion (military position) is the second most common fetal attitude. It tends to result in sinciput (forehead) presentation through the birth canal. Many fetuses assume this attitude early in labor but convert to complete flexion as labor progresses.
In moderate flexion, the head of the fetus is slightly flexed but held straighter than in complete flexion. The chin doesn’t touch the chest. This attitude is commonly called the military position because the straightness of the head makes the fetus appear to be at attention.
Attitude. A. Flexed head. B. Military position. C, D. Progressive deflection.
