A diminutive and inaccurate title for advanced practice nurses.
Becoming an advanced practice nurse (APN) requires intensive preparation, including rigorous educational, licensure, and certification processes. Most APNs hold a master's of science in nursing, and, increasingly, many earn a doctorate in nursing practice (DNP). In 2004, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing published itsPosition Statement on the Practice Doctorate in Nursing, stating that the DNP would “be the graduate degree for advanced nursing practice preparation.” Postdoctoral education has since expanded to include fellowships that provide APNs with additional expertise in research, education, and areas of specialty clinical interest.

    21st Century Cures Act—A Cure-All for Patients?
    21世纪治疗法 -- 百病包治?
Experts disagree about the pending legislation intended to remove treatment barriers
Last July, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the 21st Century Cures Act (HR 6) in a remarkably bipartisan showing, 344 votes to 77. The legislation is intended to expedite the process of getting lifesaving medicines and medical devices to patients and to fund and facilitate medical research, among other ambitious goals. The roughly 350-page bill was touted in a press release by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which had approved it unanimously, as “legislation [that] will help to modernize and personalize health care, encourage greater innovation, support research, and streamline the system to deliver better, faster cures to more patients.” The bill has since been awaiting approval by the Senate, and although it has been positively received by many health care organizations and experts, it isn't without its opponents.

A New Monoclonal Antibody Treats Severe Asthma
    新单克隆抗体治疗严重哮喘
    * Reslizumab (Cinqair), a new human monoclonal antibody, has been approved to treat severe asthma in adults. Given intravenously, the drug is used as adjunct therapy, in conjunction with inhaled corticosteroids, to reduce the frequency of asthma exacerbations, relieve asthma symptoms, and improve lung function in patients with elevated blood eosinophil levels.
    * Like all monoclonal antibodies, it carries a risk of anaphylaxis.
