Translational Cancer Nursing Research: What Will Your Contribution Be?
Over the past decade, reference to “translational research” has increasingly dominated our research semantic. There are multiple definitions of translational research, but the most commonly understood is the transfer of biomedical knowledge from bench to clinical trial and from clinical trial to bedside as a component of usual care. Translational research, conceptualized as a series of distinct stages (T1 through to T5), reflects a continuum from development of knowledge in the basic sciences, to clinical testing of new treatments and their implementation into everyday practice and healthcare policy.

Aligning Public Perception With Clinical Realities
The nature of cancer, both because of changing lifestyles and as result of advances in translational science and improvements in clinical care, is radically different from a few decades ago. For those with access to adequate prevention and detection and to current standard of care, most diagnoses of cancer result in controllable and even curable disease. Active prevention of certain malignancies—as with colonoscopy for premalignant colon polyps or sun protection for those spending time outdoors—is now within reach. The days of poorly understood risk and universally life-limiting prognosis are rapidly fading.

A Review of the Literature on Multiple Co-occurring Symptoms in Patients With Colorectal Cancer Who Received Chemotherapy Alone or Chemotherapy With Targeted Therapies
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most frequently diagnosed cancer and the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Despite an increased awareness of CRC screening, the American Cancer Society estimates that 132700 new cases of CRC will be diagnosed in 2015. Today, patients with CRC are treated with surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy (CTX), and/or targeted therapies depending on the stage of their disease at the time of diagnosis.
Psychological Characteristics and Traits for Finding Benefit From Prostate Cancer: Correlates and Predictors

Qualitative Study of Cervical Cancer Screening Among Lesbian and Bisexual Women and Transgender Men
Lesbian, bisexual, and queer (LBQ) women, as well as transgender men, are less likely than their heterosexual and female-identifying counterparts to access cervical cancer screening services. Although numerous factors that influence receipt of cervical screening have been identified, several gaps in research and knowledge merit additional research.
Women Treated for Breast Cancer Experiences of Chemotherapy-Induced Pain: Memories, Any Present Pain, and Future Reflections
The breast cancer survival has improved dramatically during the last decades because of improved treatment strategies, with a prevalence worldwide currently estimated to be 6.3 million. Cancer survivorship is an ongoing process, defined by the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship as starting at the “time of diagnosis and for the balance of life.”Treatment options for localized breast cancer commonly include surgery followed by radiation, chemotherapy, and/or endocrine therapy, which may render long-standing adverse effects that present over time and may impact on the cancer survivor’s quality of life.
Promoting Testicular Cancer Awareness and Screening: A Systematic Review of Interventions
Cancer remains one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide. It is expected that cancer cases will increase from 14 million in the year 2012 to 22 million in 20 years’ time. A number of malignancies can be prevented by means of screening; an example is testicular cancer (TC), a rare and relatively curable malignancy that predominantly affects men aged 20 to 34 years. Testicular cancer constitutes 0.5% of new cancer cases and is expected to affect 8430 men in the United States in the year 2015.

Promotion of Well-being During Treatment for Childhood Cancer: A Literature Review of Art Interventions as a Coping Strategy
Each year, approximately 16 000 children in the United States receive a diagnosis of cancer.1 Advances in cancer treatment have dramatically improved survival rates. Despite these advances, treatments include those that are potentially traumatic. Children, however, may not have developed adequate coping mechanisms for dealing with those traumas. Thus, significant patient suffering can ensue, and issues related to cancer treatment remain a dominant influence on their quality of life. Children in the pediatric oncology setting who are receiving treatment face many challenges that are not part of typical age-related experiences. They are often subject to painful procedures.
