Postpartum Period

Postpartum period refers to the first 6 weeks after the birth of the infant. During this time, the mother and family will experience many changes, including changes in the structure and function of a family. The mother and her partner begin to establish a relationship with their newborn infant and adjust their lives to include the newborn. Therefore, adaptation to these changes and management of problems, both physical and mental, will be the key points in review of postpartum period.
As usual, these key points will be discussed in three parts:
(1) postpartum adaptation;
(2) maternal discomforts and complications postpartum; and
(3) nursing interventions postpartum.
