Hematological Disorders
血液系统疾病
The functions of the hematologic system are mainly as follows: transporting oxygen and nutrients to body cells, removing carbon dioxide from cells, and initiating blood coagulation when vessels are injured. Disfunction of this system is usually related to the alteration in the components of the blood, either increase or decrease in amount, leading to adverse, even life-threatening, effects on all body systems. For example, inadequate red cell formation results in decreased oxygenation in tissues. Therefore, when we are studying hematologic disorders, we may focus on these factors. Besides, the occurrence and severity of disorders varies with regions, cultures, etc. Some groups of people are predisposed to certain disorders in particular. For example, sickle-cell anemia occurs mainly in African Americans; iron-deficiency anemia tends to occur in children from lower socioeconomic areas. Treatment for blood disorders can be culturally influenced; families who are Jehovah’s Witnesses may refuse blood transfusions. Points of this kind warrant our special attention in revision.
As usual, we’ll discuss this top in three aspects:
1. Common hematologic disorders;
2. Focusing on Assessment and interventions; and
3. Health Promotion and Risk Management.
